Qi and Blood Tonifying Overnight Oats Recipe

In Traditional Chinese medicine oats are known for their ability to tonify the qi and blood. Oats are considered sweet and warm in temperature, meaning they bring/circulate warmth in the body. They are restorative to the lung, spleen, stomach, large intestine, and kidney meridians. In a world where most of us are busy and not taking the best care of our diet, we likely all would benefit from a nice bowl of tonifying overnight oats for breakfast.

The best part of this morning oats breakfast is that you can make up to 4 days at a time and store them in your fridge! When you get up in the morning it’s as easy as grabbing your oats and getting out the door.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 Cup Steel-Cut Oats (Steel-cut are the most nutritiously dense of all oats, burn slowest in our digestive system and spike our blood sugar the least)
  • 3/4 Cup Milk (Cow, goat, plant based, your choice!)
  • 1 Tbsp Chia Seed
  • 1tsp Flax, Sesame, Pumpkin or Other Seed (excellent for boosting our kidney energy, fertility, and improving menstrual cycle)
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • Handful of berries (I use blueberries and raspberries)

In a glass container that closes (Mason jar, repurposed sauce jar) start by adding in your oats. Next, measure in your milk, chia seeds, and cinnamon. At this point I put the lid on my jar and shake it to mix the ingredients together.

Next, open the jar of oats and add your other seeds (flax, sesame, pumpkin, etc…). Now finish it off with some berries! Place your lid back on the container and place it in the fridge overnight.

You can eat this recipe cold or you can heat it in the microwave if you prefer a warm oatmeal.
