Relieve Your Allergy Symptoms With This Delicious Pear Tea

Allergy season is in full swing, and many of us are feeling it. Whether you’re feeling congested, tired, itchy, splotchy, or all of the above, it can be discouraging and downright annoying.

Western medicine uses medications like antihistamines and steroids to improve your symptoms, but they can also have nasty side effects like drowsiness and leave you feeling cloudy-headed. Because of that, many people want to find a more natural approach in fighting their allergies.

In traditional Chinese medicine, allergies are directly related to the lung system. Your lungs are responsible for circulating your wei qi (defensive qi or immune system) and when we suffer from allergy symptoms, this indicates that there is a stagnation or deficiency in the lungs. Pears are known to cool and lubricate the lung system, getting that important wei qi moving once again, thus improving your symptoms. To help clear that stagnation and get your wei qi moving again, we created a simple and delicious pear tea that you can make at home in less than 30 minutes.

It is important to remember to also include tonifying foods and to avoid certain foods. To see how to improve your allergy symptoms through your diet, check out our blog post on the subject here.

Pear Tea Recipe:

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Whole pear
  • Honey
  • Water
  • Small/Medium saucepan

Directions:

  1. Cut the pear into small pieces
  2. Put the pieces of the pear into a saucepan. Fill the saucepan with water just enough so the pear is covered.
  3. Put a lid on your saucepan and turn your stove onto medium heat.
  4. Let the pear boil for 15-20 minutes, keeping the lid on.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool enough to drink
  6. Add honey to taste for added sweetness. Using local honey is best because it contains pollination local to where you are, lowering your allergen levels.
  7. Keep the leftovers in the fridge and have it later! The mixture keeps for about 3 days.
